Cemetery Index
The index material comes from three different sources:
  1. Sioux County Headstones Indices done in 1979 - 1981 by the NW Iowa Genealogical Society of LeMars IA. It was completed by members walking each cemetery, filling out cards on each stone and then indexing by cemetery. It has burials that have headstones and comprimises most of the entries. Many burials were made where there was no marker put on or left over time. unless otherwise listed the entries will have come from this index. Special thanks to the NW Iowa Genealogical Society for permission to use these indices to assemble this large index.
  2. The WPA (Work Progress Administration Project) made an index of Sioux County graves 1938 - 1941 (the letter 'O' is missing from this index) When a record from this index is not included in the index done in 1979 - 1981 as listed above, then an entry was made and notes with (WPA So. Co. Index)
  3. Obituary Files 1980 - 1994. The Greater Sioux County Genealogical Society has been clipping obituaries from the local newspaper since 1979 to continue the indexing process beyond the index in item 1 above. The deaths from the GScGS Obituary file of Sioux County burials (1980-1994) were also added and notes with a (GSCGS Obit. file) after the entry. The actual card files contain many more area obituaries from local outlying county areas.
  4. Thanks to Jennie Den Besten of Rock Valley for spearheading and keeping the obituary card project current.

The compilation of all the material from individual indexes and obit cards into a large county index is being done by Wilma J. Vande Berg of the Greater Sioux County Genealogical Society c/o Sioux Center Public Library 327-1st Ave. NE Sioux Center IA 51250. E-Mail address is wjvb@mtcnet.net Wilma J. Vande Berg is the researcher for the GSCGS and if you want further information on an a family connection, contact her at the above address and she will help you.
