The library's Genealogy Book Section includes How-To books, reference books, family
history books, local town and county history books, census and ship passenger index books
and much, much more. Reference materials include Sioux County Cemetery index of
headstones done in 1979 and a Newspaper Index of Surnames in the local news section, 1893-1929. Also,
an index of the local news of Orange City Volksvriend 1874 - 1900 completed.
The Library as a plain paper microfilm reader and printer. Some of the Sioux Center News
(1893 - present) is on microfilm. The library has actual newspapers on hand of most
recent years. The library has available Sioux County Census microfilm from 1880 to
1920 and state census from 1885 to 1925. Library has available through the GSCGS the microfilm of the Sioux County
Court House records of the early years of about 1870-1930. The records on microfilm
include births, marriages, deaths, and probate records.
The GSCGS had provided the library with a computer and printer for Genealogical clients only. The
Family tree maker program in installed on the computer and the Family Tree Maker Archive CD volumes
(bundles) are being purchased as they are made available, as well as many other CDs with helpful
data.
